Who we are
TIDLE is the daily coastal game at playtidle.com, run by Seaglass Projects Ltd (“we”, “us”). For UK data protection law we are the controller of any personal data described here.
Contact: privacy@heynova.org. This inbox is shared with other Seaglass Projects services, so please mention TIDLE in your subject line.
The short version
- We do not ask you to sign up, and we do not have our own server that collects your data.
- TIDLE does not set any cookies.
- Your scores, streak and settings are saved in your own browser, not sent to us.
- When the game loads, Google receives your IP address: the lettering comes from Google Fonts as the game page opens, Street View comes from Google Maps Platform while you play, and Google's 3D map tiles load at the end of a run.
What is stored on your device
TIDLE does not set any cookies. It uses your browser's local storage (similar to a cookie, but only read by this site in your browser) to make the game work. This is strictly necessary for the game, so we do not ask for consent for it. It stays on your device until you clear your browser's site data. We cannot see it.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
Today's result (tidle-sv:day…) | So you can see today's result again rather than replaying the daily coast. |
Stats (tidle-sv:stats) | Games played, wins, current and best streak. |
Practice order (tidle-sv:queue, tidle-sv:bad) | Which practice coast comes next, and which coasts to skip. |
Display name (tidle-sv:displayName) | Only if you type a name when sharing a result, so it is filled in next time. |
Sound setting (tidle-sv:muted) | Remembers whether you muted the game. |
Map key (tidle-sv:gkey) | A technical setting the game needs to load Google Street View. It is not about you. |
Cookie choice (tidle-consent) | Remembers your answer to the cookie notice for up to 12 months. |
Third parties the game loads content from
When your browser fetches something from another company, that company receives your IP address and basic browser details (this is how the internet works). We do not send them your name, scores or anything else about you. The coast you are playing is a public place chosen by the game, not your own location; we never ask for your location.
| Who | What for | When |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps Platform (Google: Maps JavaScript API, Street View, Photorealistic 3D Tiles) | Street View images of the coast you play and the 3D town view after a run. Google may set or read its own cookies when this loads, and decides how it uses that data under its own policies. See Google's Privacy Policy and how Google uses cookies. | Street View: when you start a game and while you play. 3D town view: at the end of a run. |
| Google Fonts (Google) | The lettering used on the game page. | When the game page opens |
| Amazon Web Services (open terrain data) | Height of the land, for the flood map. | When you start a game |
| OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap Overpass servers | Building outlines and place names for the flood map after a run. | During a game |
| Cloudflare (cdnjs) and jsDelivr | Software libraries used to draw the 3D maps. | During a game |
| Only if you press the WhatsApp share button. | When you choose to share |
Some of these providers are based outside the UK, so your IP address may be processed in other countries under their own safeguards.
The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). We don't run our own servers or keep our own logs; Cloudflare's standard request logs apply.
Sharing a result
If you share a result, the link contains your result, the coast and, if you typed one, your display name. Anyone you send it to can see these. The game does not send this to us.
Why we can use this data (lawful basis)
Loading the maps and content needed to play is necessary to provide the game you have asked to play, and is in our legitimate interest in running it. Local storage is used because it is strictly necessary for the game to work. If we ever add optional cookies, such as visitor statistics, we will only use them if you agree, and you can change your mind at any time.
How long we keep it
We do not hold any game data ourselves. Data in your browser stays there until you clear it. Your cookie choice expires after 12 months, when we ask again. Third parties keep data according to their own policies.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to be informed, and to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, and to data portability. Because we do not hold personal data about players, most requests will be about data held by Google or the other providers above. You can contact them directly, or ask us and we will help where we can.
To delete everything TIDLE has saved on your device, clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Cookie settings
You can change your cookie choice at any time.
